Health and Safety Week

Engine Engine #9..... #92 that is. That is Thatcher's Engine number. And that is what Cory and Rich got to take to the Elementary school for Health and Safety week last week. Kassie was so excited that her Dad was going to come for the day. They just talked to the kids about fire safety, having a plan, fire extinguisher in their home, and what they do as firemen. Then the kids got to climb inside the Engine and check it out, they also got to try on their air tanks to see how heavy they are.
The weather was in the 80's, and Cory and Rich had to wear their uniforms all day in the heat. Those uniforms are not cool in the least. Cory came home exhausted, and all he did was stand there and talk all day! The heat sure takes it out of ya!
Kassie climbing down out of the Engine. It just so happened that her friend Jace was climbing down at the same time, so I got both of them in the picture! She was so excited cuz she got to ride the Engine home from school with her Dad! I just thought it was cute that these two girls weren't really interested in all that was going on, so they just found a shady spot to hang out til they were done! So I learned a little bit by standing there listening. We really need to have a better family fire plan. I don't think we have ever really talked about it with Kambree, so it is going to be the topic of a FHE real soon. Do you have a family fire plan???

Bull Canyon Camping

Some friends of ours were so nice and let us go up to their property in Bull Canyon to camp. We went with Grandma Caroll and Grandpa Boyd. Had a lot of fun, with great weather .... (just a litle rain, warm and sunny days). This was a great place to camp with kids... green grass, a swing, fire pit, picnic table, cool old buildings to explore, and hiking up the mountain.
Kambree and Kassie swingin'. They loved the swing... and fought over it most of the time.
Kassie and Kambree were little buddies this trip. Above they had tied their legs together with baling twine, and were doing leg races.... except they weren't racing anyone. Below they shared a chair around the fire, to color together and play a game.

The Helper, Organizer, Creator....

Kristian's homework assignment last night was this.....

a questionnaire about finding the strong points or attributes in your personality. Her results....

#1 - The Helper

#2 - The Organizer

#3 - The Creator

Yeah, I could have told you that! She has always been a really great helper, she is a people pleaser.... that is a good thing, to a point, but I am constantly trying to get her to do what is right and good for her too.... not just for someone else.

She has always loved to organize things, and is quite often trying to de-clutter some of my piles of junk.... which can be great sometimes

She has always been very creative, and loves projects that let her use this quality. It's always fun to see what she comes up with, and these are the homework assignments she finishes first.

What a great girl! I love her to pieces, and I'm so lucky to be her mom!!

What's a Mom to do??

Cleaning up or putting anything away is not one of Kassie's strong points. I have tried everything I can think of to help her with this....
*Bribery *Punishment *Rewards *Punishment again....
Nothing works with this kid.... it makes me crazy.... :{
The following pictures are to document what happens pretty much EVERY day when she walks in from school, although the exact placement definitely varies....
Her sweater thrown in the nearest laundry basket..... not because it needs washing, but because it just so happened to be on the floor right where she walks in the door from school.
The backpack or book bag left right in the middle of the laundry room floor, right in the middle of the walkway to get to and from the back door.

Little bags of.... lets call them "knick-knacks"..... (We won't tell you what mom calls them) out on the grass, just left there for who knows what reasons, and they will remain there until mom tells her to pick them up.

She walks in the door from school, uses the bathroom, and then heads off to do what ever she pleases, despite the fact she has homework pretty much every night, and it is the house rule that it needs to be finished before we play.

Yep, and all this in just 15 minutes of being home...... Poor girl, I just don't know how to help her! I really believe she doesn't do it on purpose, she just doesn't even think about it, she just does what is on her mind at the moment, giving no thought to anything else!

Uuuuugggggghhhhh! What's a mom to do???

Bite Off More Than You Can Chew?

I have often "bit off more than I could chew"..... not in the literal sense. But today Gage did so literally.....
The coffee table was more than he could handle....
He tripped over his blanket on the floor and fell forward with his lip connecting on the edge of the coffee table and then sliding up into his upper gum tissue. Poor boy..... and it bled so bad.
He looks like he got beat up.... he has a swollen ear from a mosquito bite and two fat lips.

OUCH! It gives me the chills just looking at it again. He sure was a tough kid though.... after only about a minute, he just kept telling me... "me otay mom, me otay."

I was really worried about his teeth, but they're not loose, so we're crossing our fingers they stay good and anchored, and they don't die from being hit so hard.

The Last Reunion

We had our last family reunion of the year today. This was a reunion of the Palmer family (my mom's side). We had fun, for those of us that was there.... but we were few in numbers. Once you get started into the school year, kids get involved in sports, etc.... and have commitments on Saturdays. Those who weren't there were missed.
We just got together for lunch, and let the kids play at the park. This was a neat park, with a little stream running through it, so the kids had some fun playing on the banks, and throwing in rocks, etc...
Cory, Dad and my brother Jake. (My cousin's husband Drew in the background)
Uncle Lyle, Dad, Uncle Lige, my cousin Becky and her husband Troy.
Kambree and my cousin Julie's daughter Emily. They have a lot of fun together. I think they are about 6 weeks apart.

Kassie and Madalyn (Julie's other daughter). Kassie and Madalyn are 2 months apart.

It is so much fun to get together and see everyone. Wish there could have been more that were able to be there. Oh-well, guess we'll hope more can be at the Christmas party! :D

My Latest Book...

...that I have read is called "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch. Many of us have seen the email, the "you tube" clip, or even Randy giving his lecture on Oprah. I really loved his lecture..... it hit close to home... so I just had to read the book. Cory picked it up for me on Saturday night, and I finished it last night.
*
GREAT BOOK! I really recommend it. What a great man.....
*
the Lord must really have a great need of wonderful and amazing men. Too bad for those of us who are left behind.

My Little Preschooler

Kambree had her second day of Preschool today. I just thought she looked so cute, I had to take her picture.
This is the outfit mom would have chose for the first day had she not been over-ruled by the bossy 4 year old. At least it was a rainy day for her to wear it and not roast!
