....even though I think it is totally bogus, Happy Valentines Day. I admit, I am so sour with the whole Valentines thing, it is just so stupid that we need a holiday to remind us that there are people in our lives we love, respect, and care about, and it gives us a "reason" to do something or say something for them. Should we not be doing such things every day? Or at least more frequently than once a year? I think I became way more synical about the whole thing when my kids got in school, and we have to do valentines for the whole class, and then there's preschool, and don't forget music class, and gymnastics class. It just becomes one more thing to do and get done in a week that is already busy, just so the kids can get more candy? It's not like they get it, or understand what it's all about. I do appreciate all the thought that some go into. Like Cory for instance, knows I don't really care about Valentines Day. We don't usually get each other anything other than a card, but today he came home and told me he made reservations for dinner for the two of us. That is nice, but he also does that sort of thing alot, so....... I don't know what I am trying to say, maybe I am just spoiled. But in light of the holiday, Hope it's a great heart day for all of you! I love you everyday, not just on Valentines!

I feel the same about the commercialization. Why do the kids have to give them to all the kids in their classes? Well at least you get dinner tonight. We have gone somewhere maybe 2 Valentine's Days. I don't mind the whole thing either because I think we should celebrate it a lot more. Maybe they invented this holiday for those who rarely show love, it might give them power of redemption.
I always loved Valentines day until I married a florist!!! Then I learned how much they hate to look at red flowers after seeing them all day long. Even though Heather still gets flowers (only I let her arrange them) Lavender is her favorite color. I think that seeing the one that you love smile and look at you with love in their eyes is what makes the day special and important. Kids, work, church , freinds, life. It all gets in the way, it is a day to go out of your way to show love for the special somone in your life and to have some alone time if possible. SHANE (to mushy?)
Your'e a nerd...Just kidding. I was listening to Dr. laura today and all these people were calling in with great lovey dovey yuck yuck stories and I thought, "Sure their husband is going above and beyond today, but what are they like on a regular basis?" I was glad Jed is a good husband 365 days a year instead of really, really good one day a year. I mean he's really, really good every day, but.. you know what I mean! And I'm rambling. Maybe I should have posted this as a post on my own blog. Instead, I'd rather ramble on your blog. I had to work tonight and I was actually thankful. I was earning money instead of spending it. Some people said, "Oh how sad you had to work tonight." but I thought, "No it's fine. It's just another day." I'm done rambling now. Good night!! You can delete this if you want.
Valentines day is not my favorite holiday either. However, the kids at school love it. I think you can go way overboard. I do not. My deprived children don't get anything big for valentines day. I usually make heart shaped pancakes for breakfast. I have started having a candle light dinner with my family. Last night I was going to make a nice dinner and Bart just wanted pizza. So we ate on paper plates by candle light. (Thanks AmyE. for the idea) My kids thought it was fun. Just something different from the norm. Anytime Bart and I can go to dinner, is a treat for me. So I am looking forward to alone time with him tonight!! But you are right Katie, it shouldn't just be one day to tell people you love them.
Granted I don't have a child in school yet but I don't get treated like that....I love a good suprise and very rarely get them so people like me need this holiday and even then it doesn't get me anything most of the time.
Wow, how would it be to not need a special day to have the one you love show you just a little extra attention. I guess when you get to go out quit a bit, spending that time with your special someone, it wouldn't seem so special. It is a rare occasion at our house so i guess thats why I love it so much....
I'm pretty lucky too, Brandon does little things daily to show his love for me. However, I really enjoy Valentines. We have a few family traditions we do that my kids look forward to every year. And the kids at school get so excited to give our their Valentines. I've noticed it more this year that I have been working in Chaz's class. All the kids were so excited not only to give Valentines to their classmates, but they were also so excited and proud to give us teachers our Valentines as well. Also, sometimes after Christmas winter tends to get long and dreary and Valentines is something to help pick us back up, and give us something to look forward to.
